The Super Falcons kicked off their 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign in style with a dominant 3-0 victory over Tunisia in the opening Group B match on Sunday in Casablanca, Morocco.
Six-time African Player of the Year Asisat Oshoala opened the scoring in the 4th minute, meeting a Rinsola Babajide free-kick with a glancing header that beat Tunisia goalkeeper Soulaima Jabrani at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium.

The USA-based forward nearly added a second goal in the 16th minute, but Tunisian defender Norhene Bettoumi intervened to deny her from close range.
Nigeria doubled their lead in first-half stoppage time, as Babajide powered past Chaima Alabbassi and blasted home to make it 2-0. Ashleigh Plumptre thought she had added a third later, but her header from Babajide’s corner was ruled out.
In the second half, Nigeria continued to dominate, with Esther Okoronkwo and Osinachi Ohale both coming close.
With nine minutes remaining, Okoronkwo struck the upright before providing the assist for Chinwendu Ihezuo, who calmly slotted in the third goal in the 84th minute.
Despite a late scare from Salma Zemzem, whose shot rattled the crossbar, Chiamaka Nnadozie kept a clean sheet as Nigeria secured all three points and the early lead in Group B ahead of Algeria and Botswana.
The victory sets the tone for the Super Falcons, the nine-time African champions, as they aim to clinch a record-extending 10th WAFCON title.
