The Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency within the Larger Accra Area, Honourable John Setor Dumelo, precipitated a stir on social media after criticising the criminalization of marijuana in Ghana.
Dumelo, in a put up on X (previously Twitter), expressed disapproval over a current transfer by the Ghana Police Service through which they destroyed 61 sacks of hashish as a consequence of a courtroom order.
The actor cum farmer turned legislator, questioned why cigarettes are authorized in Ghana but marijuana continues to stay unlawful.
Dumelo, a veteran farmer, has beforehand spoken in regards to the potential of marijuana as a crop to remodel the Ghanaian economic system if legalized, correctly regulated, and taxed.
In the same tweet in February 2022, Dumelo wrote: “Casinos, Cigarettes and Alcohol are all authorized in Ghana however marijuana is prohibited. We spend tens of millions of {dollars} importing alcohol and cigarettes but we will make billions exporting Marijuana based mostly merchandise as a rustic. The Authorized marijuana market will likely be price $70bn in 6 years….”
