Lawmaker Ikwechegh Granted N500,000 Bail After Alleged Assault on Driver

Alex Ikwechegh, a member of the Home of Representatives representing Aba North and South, has been granted bail by a Kuje Justice of the Peace Court docket. 

The bail quantity set was N500,000 Ikwechegh confronted fees for allegedly assaulting a Bolt driver named Stephen Abuwatseya exterior his residence in Abuja.

The incident, which was captured in a broadly circulated video on social media, exhibits Ikwechegh allegedly threatening the motive force and boasting about his skill to make the motive force “disappear with out a hint.” This led to public outcry. 

Deji Adeyanju, the lawyer representing the Bolt driver, confirmed the arraignment and highlighted the intense nature of the allegations. In response to the incident, the Home of Representatives has referred Ikwechegh to its Ethics Committee, emphasising {that a} easy expression of regret is inadequate.
