Ondo court remands man for killing his wife

A Justice of the Peace Courtroom sitting in Akure, Ondo state capital, has ordered the remand of a 35-year-old motorcyclist, James Sunday, in police custody, over the alleged homicide of his spouse’s pal, Justinah Sunday,42. 

The accused was remanded by Chief Justice of the Peace, T. O. Olusola-Olujobi. 

The Police Prosecutor, Taiwo Oniyere, informed the court docket that the defendant unlawfully murdered Justinah on Sunday, March 13, 2024, at No. 47, Ijoka Avenue, Ondo throughout the Ondo State Magisterial District.

Oniyere stated the defendant unlawfully killed one Justinah ‘F’, aged 42, by strangling her neck with a rope, which led to her demise.

He stated the offence contravenes Sections 316 and 319 of the Legal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Legal guidelines of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

In accordance with the police prosecutor, the deceased who was a bosom pal of the defendant’s spouse, despatched the defendant to ship cow meat price N250,000 along with his bike to one in all her prospects, however the accused allegedly diverted the meat to his home.

Oniyere urged the court docket to remand the defendant to the Olokuta Correctional Centre, pending recommendation from the workplace of the Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP.

However the defence counsel, A.F. Falana, prayed for a date to allow him to file a reply to the remand utility.

Chief Justice of the Peace Olusola-Olujobi, ordered the remand of the defendant in police custody and adjourned the case until April 18, 2024, for the ruling.
