The Super Falcons were the favorites to claim all three points, but they flattered to deceive in the end

The Super Falcons of Nigeria settled for a goalless draw against Algeria in their final group stage game of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations at the Stade Larbi Zaouli, Soccernet.ng reports.

After beating Tunisia 3-0 and Botswana 1-0, the Super Falcons returned to WAFCON action with a game against North Africans Algeria.

Based on the quality of both teams and their achievements on the continent, Nigeria were the favorites to get the win. And they dominated the fixture.

Coach Justin Madugu named a different lineup from the first two games, with players like Francesca Ordega, Ifeoma Onumonu, Shukurat Oladipo, and Sikiratu getting a place in the starting eleven.

The Super Falcons dominated the early exchanges, but they failed to create any big opportunity. The attack was characterized by poor shots from range.

Madugu’s ladies produced 24 shots throughout the entire game. They also had 55% of the possession, but they just lacked the cutting edge in the final third. Hence, they had to settle for a goalless draw after 90 minutes.

The result ensured that Nigeria ended the group stages with seven points after three games. They have qualified for the knockout rounds as top of their group, followed by Algeria, who had five.
