The enforcement unit of the Lagos Waste Administration Authority (LAWMA) has launched a sturdy operation to dislodge scavengers and miscreants from unlawful dumpsites throughout neighbourhoods within the metropolis, for a cleaner and more healthy setting.
Up to now few days, the LAWMA enforcement staff has been routinely patrolling neighborhoods throughout the state, infamous for unlawful refuse dumping and the presence of scavengers, rummaging by waste piles, contributing to littering and ugly landscapes and public areas.
Commenting, the Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, expressed concern over residents’ growing disregard for correct waste administration practices, stressing the significance of immediate cost for waste companies, and the unfavourable penalties of indiscriminate disposal.
He stated, “The actions of scavengers and miscreants not solely deface our cities but additionally pose critical well being hazards to residents. It’s disheartening to see some people partaking in indiscriminate disposal as a result of they don’t need to pay for waste companies. Through the enforcement operations, the LAWMA staff dismantled shanties and unlawful buildings, apprehending people caught partaking in indiscriminate waste disposal, at varied areas in Ipaja, Ikate-Surulere, and Ikeja, preparatory to prosecution of nothing lower than 30 individuals caught.
