NOSDRA begins probe of Shell’s asset explosion that killed many in Rivers

The Nationwide Oil Spills Detection and Response Company (NOSDRA) says investigation into Friday’s explosion on the Rumuekpe part of Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP) in Rivers is underway.

The Police in Rivers had confirmed that no fewer than 10 individuals died on Friday following an explosion close to the TNP in Rumuekpe, Rivers.

Mr Idris Musa, Director-Common of NOSDRA, informed Information Company of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday {that a} Joint Investigative Go to (JIV) to the positioning had been scheduled for Saturday to determine the reason for the blast and quantity of crude spilled.

JIV is a statutory inquiry that follows each oil spill incident consisting of representatives of the oil agency, regulators, host neighborhood and State Ministry of Setting.

NAN reviews that the TNP, operated by Shell Petroleum Improvement Firm (SPDC), evacuates crude from its oil fields to the Bonny Crude Oil Export Terminal.

An SPDC Spokesman, Michael Adande, had stated in an announcement on Friday that the fireplace incident occurred on the Rumuekpe-Nkpoku trunk line in Rivers and efforts have been ongoing to place out the fireplace.

“The Shell Petroleum Improvement firm of Nigeria Restricted (SPDC) confirms {that a} hearth incident occurred right now, Friday March 3, 2023, on the Rumuekpe – Nkpoku Trunk Line in Rivers State.

“Our technical groups are working with related authorities businesses to place out the fireplace. Thereafter, an investigation into the incident by a government-led joint investigation workforce will start to determine the reason for the incident.” SPDC said
