Legendary Beninese singer-songwriter, Angélique Kidjo, has been introduced as a co-recipient of the 2023 Polar Music Prize.
The 62-year-old bagged the distinguished Swedish music award alongside British music govt, Chris Blackwell, and Estonian composer, Arvo Pärt.
The winners will obtain a money award of 600,000 kronor ($57,700) every.
Kidjo turns into solely the third African to win the prize, which is awarded yearly to people, teams and establishments in recognition of remarkable musical achievements.
The primary African to win the award was Miriam Makeba of South Africa in 2002, adopted by Senegalese singer, Youssou N’Dour in 2013.
Angélique Kidjo is now the most-awarded feminine artist in Africa, with over 150 laurels, together with 5 Grammys.
